Stating the Obvious

Like many others, I’m pretty solidly in the end of Wrath, pre-Cataclysm lull.  If you’ve been following my lack of posts, you’ve realized this already.  I’m still interested in keeping up the blog and will still post, but until things get more exciting, it’s not going to be at the several times a week pace that I was on before.

My guild downed the Lich King on 25 man a few weeks back, which was great.  We’ve made a little bit of progress on hard modes, but I’m not so sure we have the drive and interest to down the Lich King on heroic difficulty any time soon.  By all accounts it is an extremely difficult fight.  That would require our top raiders to consistently show up and be dedicated to this goal, and instead many of them are realizing that now is a good time for a break.

Frankly, it’s hard to get all that excited about killing the same bosses again on a harder difficulty level.  Sure, there are gear upgrades, but what are they going to help us do?  Level faster in the expansion so we can get to max level and get bored again more quickly?  If the reward for killing the Lich King on normal difficulty was a series of new, harder bosses, I think you’d see a lot more interest from mid-range progression guilds like mine.  It’s always fun to learn new fights and down new bosses.  But adding a new mechanic to an existing fight, or worse yet just ramping up the boss health and damage output, doesn’t really get most of us motivated.

So, it looks like we’ll continue to work on some of the easier hard modes and repeating our Lich King kill as we bring in some new players over the summer.  We’re sort of treading water on progression, but you never know which trial member you bring into the guild will end up being a solid raid member for months to come.

I’ve tried to get into my alts.  My level 80 paladin tank is pretty much as geared as he is going to get from heroics and emblems, but I can’t convince myself that pug tanking raids is going to be all that fun.  So, he’s just kind of sitting there.  I started a balance/resto druid, and that has been somewhat enjoyable.  I have a max level priest and warlock on my old server, but I don’t like to divide my attention between servers too much.

One alt that I am waiting on Cataclysm for is a dwarf shaman.  I just think this is a great race/class combo, especially as an enhance shaman.  Until then, however, I’ll probably just continue to raid with Wugan and slowly level my druid.  Anyone else in a similar situation?

I hope you’ll continue with the resto shaman leveling guide! It fills a spot that I hadn’t found anywhere else. Plenty of enhance guides out there, not so much on the elemental or resto side. Take care! -Chris

  • Same situation for us. Working on Heroic Sindragosa at the moment and it’s difficult
to get 25 on every night and also recruit after 6+ months in ICC.

Been thinking of makin a similar post and I probably will. There’s just nothing to blog about right now.

Same. Swapped from resto to elemental, doing dailies as dps and focusing on farming old mounts :) I’m guessing Zul Gurub will dissapear, so i’m going there to try to get my raptor and toigr. Maybe do the salty title. In general, just fool around on Monsieur, I’m actually quite enjoying shaman from a different specc. Ooo, and I read the fluff piece on Obundo on the official site, that made me love shaman some more again too :)

Our guild is almost in the same situation, but have not yet managed a LK kill on normal. There is still some point in raiding until LK dies, then I suspect the guild will be split between those bothering with Hard modes and those who want to gear up alts in ICC.

I have a variety of alts, one at 80 I’ve sort of stopped playing, others I am levelling slowly. I don’t really see the point of doing much with them, except getting them to the right level for what I want (75 for the next profession cap or 80 to run instances with people). I’m sure when the summer raiding lul hits, I will be getting plenty of opportunity to alt.

Yep, I know the feeling. Plus now we’re approaching summer people start to go outside more, I guess.

But our 10 man guild have got down 10/12 hc modes, just managed Sindy, still got Putri but I’m not that excited about the LK. I feel there is no rush. Like you say, is there any rush? When Cataclysm comes everyone is going to be back to scratch anyway, guildox ranks won’t matter anymore, people will be focused on levelling. The fun will come back when it comes, but for the first time in a while I am started to feel bored myself. It is mainly lack of time, am finishing my degree so I have other things to think about. I’m looking forward to summer and holidays etc, and Cataclysm.

I want to level my priest I think, she’s sat at 50 and only have two 80s so might do it for the boredom factor as I always enjoy levelling, but even just logging on for raids is boring me now. I’m not leaving yet though !

  • Still trying to down LK (25) on normal…after that I’ll probably work exclusively on my shammy on the DTK server. Though this is somewhat new to me. Before I just quit until the next expansion came out but I don’t want to lose my raiding spot…so I trudge. /sigh
